Having Fun with Fractions...

This week we have been working with materials to help us with our fractions.  While the best part for most of the children was eating the apples at the end, they all felt much more confident about the fractions too....

Then we moved on to a different learning goal.

Using M&Ms students had to work out what fraction of the set each colour was.  They seemed to work really hard...I wonder why?

Yes, I did let them eat their set of M&Ms at the end.

 

We have made some great progress with our fractions this week....I think we will be eating more fruit and maybe more M&Ms too!

Making Play-Dough in Numeracy

In our numeracy groups, we had to find a simple recipe and make play dough using the measurements provided. Some groups only had a 1/2 cup when others had a whole or a 1/4 cup. We had to work out how many 1/2 cups were needed to complete the recipe correctly with out having the right cups.  The end result was some great looking play dough...(and a very messy classroom).
