Welcome to Room 14

This is happening in Room 14 right now!

Students decided as a group that they wanted to do a piece of aboriginal art work after looking at some images online.  To make it our own, students chose something that was special to them and included it in their artwork. It is a long, slow process but the results are going to be wonderful. You can look forward to seeing the finished products at our community picnic on Friday. Don't miss it.

How can we keep ourselves safe when we are online?

Today we watched a great video that showed the importance of staying safe online.  It compared things we do in the real world, to things we do in the online world.  One of the examples we talked about was whether you would leave your front door open for anyone to wander inside and look through all your personal things? That way they can help themselves to your family photos and your personal details from the mail we left on the kitchen bench.  The students all agreed that we don't do this, we lock it because our stuff is important to us and it is personal.  Then we looked at the online world where we have profiles with our photos on them for anyone to see, they can download them and keep them as if they belonged to them.  They could find out where we go to school if you have your uniform on in a photo... or work out where you live. We then discussed our thoughts about what we need to do to keep ourselves safe.  Below is what the class came up with together.

We are working hard towards becoming responsible digital citizens.  If you know that you have not yet returned your cyber safety agreement, please do this as soon as possible so that we can use this amazing tool effectively.

Things we love and why?

This week the children in Room 14 have been thinking about things that are important to them. We then did drawings onto a paper jar to symbolise each of these things.  Once the children had filled their jar, they then wrote about four of those things to tell us why they were picked to be put in the jar.  Here are some of our beautiful children at work...

These will all be up on the wall in the next couple of days so be sure
to pop in and see what is in your child's jar.

Hello everyone,

This is our class blog for 2015.  There are a number of fantastic reasons for having a blog.  Here are some of them:

  • recording our learning.  If you are away for some reason, you can jump online and catch up with what you missed.
  • share our learning with the world around us.  Parents, family, friends and other students around the world can see what we are up to in Room 14.
  • sharing links to other websites we may be using in our learning.
  • recording our Inquiry journey each term.
  • sharing photos and videos that we have created.

We look forward to sharing our year with you and encourage you to engage with us through posting comments.
